A first-generation Diné beadmaker from Crystal, New Mexico, Cheyenne’s art blends elements from traditional Diné jewelry and contemporary jewelry design while also exploring color theory. His work is greatly influenced by the natural world, and his connection to his Diné culture and traditions. He incorporates asymmetry into his work because he was taught and firmly believes that only Mother Earth can create something that is perfect and symmetrical. Cheyenne has been making beads since 2020 and is looking forward to continuing to develop his skills and exploring new designs.
Cheyenne's signature style is both distinct and thoughtful. Each of his traditional wrap necklaces features a hallmark "sing stone"—a unique stone tab accentuated with a small coral dot—making his pieces easily identifiable. Additionally, his necklaces with sterling silver cones and clasps are stamped with his hallmark, "CG". Another hallmark of Cheyenne's bead necklaces is his inclusion of a single asymmetrical bead in a contrasting color, carefully placed on one side of the necklace.
Cheyenne is an exceptionally talented, up-and-coming artist. We are excited to feature Cheyenne's work here at Garland's and look forward to watching his career flourish.
