DuWayne Chee Jr. is following the footsteps of both his father, DuWayne Chee Sr. and his uncle, Raymond Chee, in creating beautiful Native American wooden sculptures.
DuWayne studied at the Institute of American Indian Art in Santa Fe, NM for four years. He also went to a trade school in Albuquerque to study low voltage communication and computers. He worked actively in Albuquerque, but his love for art and his family lineage of carvers kept calling him back to the creation of sculptures. He started practicing with clay and would form the whole skeletal system of a figure and then add the muscles before he started carving in wood. DuWayne’s passion for his work is evident; the detail in his carving takes your breath away. He has a very bright future ahead!
He moved back home to Arizona with his young son and wife to help his parents raise his five cousins. The Chees are a warm, kind, and very talented family.
