Carlo Lonjose is a Zuni artist who comes from a long lineage of acclaimed jewelers. He was born in Zuni on December 10, 1984. His mother, Diane Lonjose, is a talented jeweler and his father, Rod, helps her with the jewelry as well. Carlo is the youngest of three and the only son. Inspired by his parents and his legendary grandparents, Alice and Duane Quam, he is continuing the family legacy of jewelry making.
Carlo has been an artist since a young age. At age 10 he started carving Zuni Fetishes, a sacred tradition to the Zuni. He then began to carve wood, and then later transitioned into making jewelry. He now makes beautiful jewelry and continues his carving as well.
When not making jewelry, Carlo is busy raising cattle with his family and their herd of 50-60 cattle. The cattle are primarily used for their family, and they also donate to the Zuni tribe for their Shalako dances.
Carlo has three sons and has coached lacrosse for his oldest son’s team. His son received a scholarship to play lacrosse at college.
Carlo only uses natural stones in his jewelry and has great pride in his work. He has a bright future ahead!
