Opal

SiO2·nH2O

Opal is a form of silica with an internal structure that diffracts light. This can create bright rainbows of color when light hits the stone. When a piece of opal displays particularly nice colors, our artists refer to it as "fire" within the stone. Australia is the primary source for the high quality, natural opal that our artists use.
