Roland Hogan Begay was born southwest of Gallup, New Mexico on the Navajo reservation. He learned silversmithing from his father. Roland creates scenes from Navajo life using an overlay technique in which he cuts out hogans (traditional eight-sided Navajo homes), people, horses, corrals and other items in a traditional Navajo setting, and solders them to a background of sterling silver or 14k gold. Roland also creates beautiful jewelry with the Navajo wedding/ceremonial basket design using copper and sterling silver.
Roland’s work has won several awards at the Gallup Intertribal Ceremonial and at the Heard Museum's annual show in Phoenix. His work is traditional and precise, and we are proud to carry his jewelry!
