Joe Stephen Ben

Joe Stephen Ben is the son of Joe Ben Jr, a Navajo Medicine Man and renowned sandpainting artist. Raised under his father’s guidance, Joe Stephen was steeped in the spiritual teachings of Diné culture, including the intricate sandpaintings that represent the sacred images, stories, and beings of Navajo healing ceremonies. These sandpaintings are crafted with precision, using crushed rocks and natural minerals. His older brother, Zach Ben, also creates beautiful sandpaintings, but it’s only recently that Joe Stephen has begun making these larger sandpaintings as well. Encouraged by his father to let his artistic expression flow uniquely through him, Joe Stephen swiftly demonstrated a natural talent. Joe Stephen is a softspoken and kind young man, poised for a promising future ahead.
